There are several signs to look out for to know if your starter motor is on its way out these include:
- Engine will not turn over - If you are turning your key and nothing happens this is one of the most common problems that will indicate your starter motor needs replacing. This occurs when your starter motor is burnt out or having an electrical problem. Note: this issue can also be caused when the battery is dead so its always a good idea to rule that out first.
- Loud Clicking - Loud clicking when starting your vehicle indicating there is a flow of energy to the starter motor, but the motor inside is not triggering this energy therefore not working properly. This indicates you need to replace your starter motor as its on its way out.
- Grinding noise - This noise will occur when trying to start the car, this is usually a warning sign that the gears on the starter motor that connect to the flywheel are worn out. This noise can also occur from inside the start motor indicating there is an issue with your starter motor and most likely needs replacing
